Believe it or not there is a reason people tell you to find yourself before you fall in love. It's because when you don't get that promotion or you realize that you can do better, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN PUSH THROUGH THAT. You are the only one that can make a change in your own life. If I wasn't married right now, I would still be the only one that can make decisions about the life I want to live and lead. Luckily I married a man that understands that I want to do my own thing a lot of the time, and that it usually takes me a little longer to figure things out, but I do eventually end up figuring it out. Being in relationships, whether that be with a spouse, sibling, parent, friend, coworker, whoever, there are people you can turn to when things don't go exactly as planned and you need a hand. In order to recognize that you have to be able to identify it by yourself. Today I woke up earlier than a had in a while, and stayed awake. I read some of The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, I took my dog for a long walk, I did half-assed yoga (but it still felt great), I had a lovely cup of coffee and all before 830. It's amazing the amount of energy and life can come back to you when you didn't get something you wanted or someone tells you aren't good enough to have something. It lights a fire under your butt to reevaluate what you're really working towards.
Unfortunately for someone of us (me included) it takes things getting worse or something not happening in our favor to make a drastic change to do what you really want! Thankfully I had a plan in place that helped me solidify what it is I truly want to do.
